Sometimes we just need a moment to ourselves. This might be after a break-up, when school sucks, when your boss made a snarky comment – we love wallowing! It gives us a moment to make us feel even worse about ourselves and afterwards we can move on. It does sound strange, but it’s necessary.

The Blind Side
Based on the true story of Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael Oher. (I do LOVE it that this is a true story). Michael has no clue who his father is and his mother is a drug addict. They live in a small house which doesn’t seem like they have a lot to go around. When Leigh Anne meets him, she ensures that Micheal has every opportunity to succeed. When he shows an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael’s skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. But there are some bumps in the way.
The Impossible/Lo Imposible
Also based on a true story: I promise you will cry. a Lot.
A regular family – Maria, Henry and their three kids – travel to Thailand to spend Christmas. They get an upgrade to a villa on the coastline. After settling in the villa and exchanging gifts for Christmas, they go to the pool. A perfect vacation until they hear a distant noise. There is no time to escape from the tsunami; Maria and her eldest are swept one way, Henry and the youngest another. This movie will sweep you from “they will find each other” to “this is a lost cause” in two minutes.
